PRISTINA – Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kosovo (SRSG) Joachim Rücker, accompanied by Prime Minister Agim Çeku, today attended the meeting of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) being held in Zagreb, Croatia on 1-2 March.
The meeting was an important opportunity for participants, including Kosovo, to confirm their commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and institutions.
Quoting former UN Special Envoy Kai Eide, the SRSG stated that “status quo in Kosovo is not tenable” and expressed gratitude to delegations for their support of UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari and the status process.
Mr. Rücker expressed confidence that after one year of negotiations and after the current phase of intensive diligent talks, Special Envoy Ahtisaari’s comprehensive proposal would reach the UN Security Council in March.
The meeting of Foreign Ministers was a step towards transforming the Stability Pact into a Regional Cooperation Council. The SRSG reiterated: “Kosovo is an integral part of this region irrespective of, but also in anticipation of, status. It must become a permanent part of regional cooperation in the interest of regional stability.”
