PRISTINA – SRSG Søren Jessen-Petersen this morning met the Team of Unity at UNMIK MHQ. Assembly Speaker Nexhat Daci, Prime Minister Bajram Kosumi, President Rugova’s representative Skender Hyseni, PDK leader Hashim Thaci, ORA leader Veton Surroi and Team Co-ordinator Blerim Shala attended the meeting.
The SRSG briefed the Team of Unity on recent developments and also sought their views ahead of the Contact Group meeting and his meeting with Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari tomorrow in Paris.
With regard to continued implementation of Standards, the SRSG and the Team of Unity agreed that there has been further progress in recent months but more needs to be done. “I appeal to all of you, in your different capacities, to do all that you can to push forward with Standards implementation, so that there is movement from statements to substance”, said the SRSG.
They also discussed decentralisation. The Team of Unity assured the SRSG that decentralisation is a clear priority and they welcome the idea of a meeting between Kosovo’s Minister of Local Government and his Serbian counterpart. The Team of Unity underlined the need for good preparation ahead of such a meeting.
