Pristina – It was with great sadness that SRSG Michael Steiner learned early this morning of the tragic bus accident on the Kulina Pass road between Kosovo and Montenegro.
“This is a very sad and tragic moment for the families of the victims and for all of Kosovo,” said SRSG Michael Steiner. “We know that the bus was coming from the Montenegrin coast and was headed for the village of Barileve and other locations near Pristina. No one is ever prepared for this kind of tragedy, which can strike without warning. It is particularly sad because most of the victims were very young.”
“UNMIK will do everything it can to assist the families and to find out why this accident occurred. My thoughts and prayers are now with the families,” concluded SRSG Michael Steiner.
UNMIK Regional Administrator Marguerite Roy went to the Peje hospital to visit some of the wounded and to assess the situation and offer any assistance that may be needed.
The most seriously wounded from the accident are being treated at the Pristina University Hospital.
