Pristina – Following his visit to the site of yesterday’s tragic bus accident SRSG Michael Steiner today also visited the two control-points between Kosovo and Montenegro at the Kulina Pass and met with officials at both sites. Today’s visit followed his meeting with Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic last week.
The SRSG was especially interested in the possible smuggling activities taking place in the No-Man’s-Land between the two control-points.
“This is an area free of control” he stated, “We need to achieve control, we need to solve this problem and the solution cannot be a No-Man’s-Land of some 7 kilometres. The solution is to reduce the No-Man’s-Land to Zero. This can be achieved by co-location of the control-points.”
Asked about the evaluation of the damage to the budget SRSG Michael Steiner said, “an estimation is difficult, but it is certainly millions of Euros. These millions are not for the smugglers,” he stressed, “these millions are ours and we need them for the schools and the hospitals in Kosovo.”
