SRSG Rücker’s statement on the march against crime in Pristina

UNMIK/PR/1693

PRISTINA – UNMIK stands fully in support of the marchers who demonstrated against crime today. The murder of Kosovo Police Officer Triumf Riza is a heinous crime and a terrible tragedy. But the outpouring of support for his family is a sign that the people of Kosovo do not accept crime and violence. Indeed, his death has united Kosovo’s people against crime like no other event that I have witnessed here.

Twenty-eight-year-old Triumf Riza was a fearless officer, whose service was exemplary. He will be deeply missed, including by many of UNMIK’s staff who knew him well and marched today.

The KPS has already made key arrests of suspects in the case of Triumf Riza’s murder. I am fully confident that all of those responsible for his death will be brought to justice. But no police department can succeed without the support of the community. I strongly urge anyone with information to come forward to help the police fully solve this case.
