PRISTINA – At a meeting today with the Štrpce/Shtërpcë representatives including MAP Jakovelvić, D/MAP Staletović, Add VP Aliu, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kosovo (SRSG) Joachim Rücker made it clear that there is time to find a solution to concerns that minority communities would not be adequately represented following a partial boycott by Kosovo Serbs of the 17 November elections.
“It is unfortunate that Kosovo Serbs did not vote in large numbers. However, the focus now is on the way forward,” Mr. Rücker said, adding that Štrpce/Shtërpcë will remain an undivided, multiethnic municipality.
“It is important to note that, based on an SRSG Executive Decision aimed at keeping Kosovo’s institutions functional, the present Municipal Assemblies will stay in place until the certification of the municipal election results” he said. “During the interim, there is time for discussions to find a solution so that the Kosovo Serbian community’s interests will be properly protected.”
The Kosovo Albanian and Kosovo Serbian Members of the Štrpce/Shtërpcë Municipal Assembly promised to work together and to continue their dialogue.
