PRISTINA – SRSG Søren Jessen-Petersen met today with the family of Shqipe Hebibi together with Prime Minister Bajram Rexhepi, after learning of the wonderful news of her release in Afghanistan.
“This is a very happy day for the family of Ms. Hebibi, for Kosovo and for the UN and UNMIK,” the SRSG said. “We wanted to come over here to share the joy and happiness of the family. We are so delighted that they will soon have her back in Kosovo.”
The SRSG expressed thanks to Afghanistan’s government for the crucial role it played in securing Ms. Hebibi’s safe release. He also thanked the UNDP co-ordinator’s office in Kosovo for their efforts in communicating with the family throughout this trying period.
He added that he is looking forward to meeting Ms. Hebibi personally when he gets back from his upcoming trip to UN headquarters.
For their part, the Hebibi family thanked the Kosovo Government, the UN and UNDP for their interest and efforts in this case. They also thanked the people of Kosovo for their support during this difficult time.
