Pristina/Obiliq - SRSG Michael Steiner today visited the Kosovo B2 power plant, whose turbine has been restarted following repairs. The turbine will need to operate for several days before it can come online and begin producing electricity.
Mr. Steiner congratulated KEK Managing Director Josef Rieder, along with the national and international staff, for the successful repair of the power plant, which was badly damaged by a lightning strike in July.
“I am very proud of the cooperation between international and local staff here,” said SRSG Michael Steiner. “Kosovo can be proud of it.”
Mr. Steiner was given a tour of the refurbished power plant by Mr. Rieder. During the visit, the SRSG observed the major repairs that had been carried out at the facility over the previous four months.
“What we need now is for consumers to use energy very carefully,” said SRSG Michael Steiner. He added that everyone must pay for the energy they use.
SRSG Michael Steiner also announced that work on additional repairs would continue.
“It now lies on the shoulders of the workers of KEK to help us get through the winter,” he said.
However, the success of the latest refurbishment encouraged him to remain optimistic.
