SRSG visits Tirana

UNMIK/PR/816

PRISTINA – On September 9 and 10 SRSG Michael Steiner traveled to Tirana for meetings with Prime Minister Fatos Nano, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ilir Meta and Tirana Mayor Edi Rama.

The meetings yielded two agreements, one a Memorandum of Understanding on Police Cooperation and the other an agreement on mutual agreement of vehicle insurance. Under the new insurance agreement, instead of having to pay 50 Euros per visit for supplemental insurance, average drivers from Kosovo will be charged 32 Euros per year.

Mr. Steiner also authorized an agreement on cultural exchanges that had been signed by Tirana and the Government in Kosovo.

The SRSG was given excellent support by the Albanian Government, which reiterated its position that no one is above the law.

Mr. Steiner was impressed by the brightly painted buildings that Mayor Rama showed him in Tirana and invited him to visit Prishtina and “paint the town.”
