PRISTINA – Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) Søren Jessen-Petersen today met the Executive Board of the Women Caucus of the Kosovo Assembly.
During the meeting the SRSG underlined the importance of women’s participation in every level of the political life. He expects active participation of women making Kosovo an integrated society which is based on gender and ethnic equality.
Talking about empowerment of women the SRSG stated: “I see two important areas; the first one is inclusion of women in decision making process, the other one is the standard implementation and decentralization where women politician can help moving Kosovo forward.”
The SRSG made it clear that he believes that the Women Caucus of the Kosovo Assembly can do a lot in advocating gender and ethnic integration.
Responding to the issue of women participation in the status process, the SRSG said: “tomorrow, during my meeting with the Status Team, I will raise this issue again, and I urge them to include female politicians and experts in the Working Groups”.
The Women Caucus of the Kosovo Assembly has 34 members; it was formed last year by the elected female deputies of the political parties.
