UNMIK/PR/1743
In the course of a visit to Tirana, SRSG Lamberto Zannier had meetings with Prime Minister Sali Berisha and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ilir Meta, and the diplomatic corps. Mr. Zannier described the role of the UN in Kosovo following UNMIK’s reconfiguration.
With regard to the municipal election, although UNMIK had no direct involvement, Mr. Zannier defined as positive the fact that there were no major security incidents on Sunday and, even from a status neutral position, considered the trend towards more active participation by the Kosovo Serb community as an encouraging step towards longer term reconciliation and integration with the local community.
During the meetings, regional cooperation processes were also discussed. The Albanian interlocutors expressed appreciation for the role of UNMIK on the ground. Zannier praised the Albanian Government for their very positive achievements.
