PRISTINA – Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) Søren Jessen-Petersen today issued the following statement on the occasion of International Roma Day:
"On the occasion of the International day for the Roma community, I urge all members of civil society who value liberal democratic principles to stand up against all forms of discrimination, intolerance and prejudices towards minorities, including Roma, and to work towards creation of a tolerant and pluralistic society in Kosovo.
UNMIK and the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government [PISG] in Kosovo are committed to curbing the increasing poor conditions and discrimination faced by the Roma community and work for their betterment. Let us rededicate ourselves to building a multi-ethnic society, which would guarantee all communities, including members of the most vulnerable and disadvantageous sections of society regardless of ethnicity, their rightful place in Kosovo."
