Students from Prizren make educational visit to Italy

UNMIK/PR/368

PRISTINA--- The Department of Youth is sending 30 secondary school students from Prizren to Florence, Italy, for a one-week educational visit. The event is taking place within the pact of friendship that ties the two municipalities.

The students, selected on the basis of academic excellence, involvement in civil and sports life, jointly by the Department of Youth, the Municipality of Prizren and the Department of Sports, will be in Italy from Sep 24 through Oct 1. They will visit museums, schools, sports facilities, and will attend arts events. They will be accompanied by the representatives of Prizren municipalities as well as representatives of the Departments of Youth and Sports.

The Department of Youth organized the trip and covered the travel expenses together with the Department of Sports. The Florentine authorities will provide accommodation and supervision for the duration of the stay.

The Department of Youth is committed to complementing the formal education sector by creating exchange opportunities for Kosovars. The trip to Florence represents a first concrete step in this direction, as well as an encouraging cooperation between the JIAS Departments and the municipalities. The trip to Florence is part of a larger Youth Week event that will commence on 1 October. The theme for the week will be “Tolerance, No Violence”. A series of youth-led projects, including painting workshops, clean ups, art productions, photography contests, rock concerts, and multi-ethnic soccer games will sensitize youth to the need to enhance tolerance and respect of human rights.

The Department of Youth has been operational since March this year. One of the multiple tasks assigned to it by the IAC is to co-operate with other organizations in order to promote policies and resources in various matters like regional and international exchange programs and the promotion of youth and human rights.
