PRISTINA – The UN Secretary General has appointed Principal Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Kosovo (PDSRSG) Larry Rossin as the PDSRSG for the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
SRSG Søren Jessen-Petersen, addressing the media at Pristina airport on his return from New York, said: “Larry Rossin has been here for almost as long as I have been here – 18 months – and Larry has played a crucial role in restoring UNMIK’s relevance and credibility. He has done a lot for Kosovo. His assignment with UNMIK is his second stay in Kosovo: he was Head of the US Liaison Office right after the war and now he came back to contribute to moving the process towards status further and he has played a key role.”
“He will be missed; I will miss him. At the same time, he his going to another United Nations mission which is very complex, very difficult, and they certainly will need all Larry’s considerable talents there. I cannot stress enough that he has contributed enormously to Kosovo and to UNMIK. But we will move on, even without Larry, and move on strongly, full speed and full commitment to see this process through,” he added.
Mr. Rossin assumed the position of PDSRSG at UNMIK on October 1 2004, having earlier, as a U.S. diplomat, served as the first head of the U.S. Office in Pristina from July 1999 through February 2000.
PDSRSG Rossin will leave Kosovo later in February. He will give a press conference in Pristina prior to his departure.
