UNMIK/PR/1105
PRISTINA – An UNMIK delegation, led by PDSRSG Charles Brayshaw, met with senior UNESCO officials in its headquarters in Paris today. The PISG Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Behxhet Brajshori, was a member of the delegation, in order to address cultural protection issues within the PISG competence.
The delegation met with UNESCO Assistant Director General Mounir Bouchenaki, the head of UNESCO’s experts mission to Kosovo in March 2003 Horst Godicke, and other UNESCO officials.
The UNMIK delegation had been scheduled to meet with the UNESCO Director General Koichiro Matsuura but declined to do so because of the unanticipated planned participation of the ambassador of Serbia and Montenegro.
Mr. Brayshaw met privately with the UNESCO DG, Mr. Matsuura.
UNESCO expressed its commitment to support UNMIK and PISG programmes to preserve and restore cultural heritage sites in Kosovo.
