UNMIK/PR/201
Pristina – On Saturday, March 25th, the UNMIK Department of Education & Science will host a UNICEF-sponsored ‘Special Education’ Workshop for local and international educators at the Faculty of Philology, University of Pristina campus, in Pristina.
The workshop will focus on special needs education in Kosovo in the 21st Century. Over 50 participants comprised of international and local educators representing all regions in Kosovo, including members of the Kosovar Albanian and Serbian communities, are expected to attend the Saturday workshop. The workshop is scheduled from 8.30 to 17.30 hrs.
The keynote speech will be delivered in the morning by Professor Dr. Ferdinand Kleine, an eminent scholar and researcher in Special Education. He has made major contributions to developments in special education in Germany and other European countries. His address is titled, “Qualifications and Competencies of Special Education Teachers for the 21st Century.” Prof. Kleine’s address will be followed by a question/answer session, and a lunch break.
Following the break, participants will group into the following areas of special education according to their expertise and/or interest: Hearing Impaired, Sight Impaired, Mentally Impaired, Speech Impaired, and other groups. Each group will workshop their ideas on both the negative and positive aspects of these areas in Kosovo to date and will decide on possible solutions for the future.
The workshop is expected to give local educators the opportunity to discuss the visions and paradigms of special education from an international perspective. International participants will get the chance to learn the present status of, and attitudes toward special education in Kosovo.
UNMIK Department of Education and Science plans to organize a workshop focusing on in-service teacher training.
The Department of Education & Science, with UNICEF sponsorship, recently held a general Teacher Training Workshop on Feb 25th and 26th.
