PRISTINA – The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kosovo (SRSG) Joachim Rücker met today with staff of the Central Elections Commission (CEC) Secretariat to discuss the technical preparations for the upcoming elections on 17 November. The meeting with the CEC Secretariat follows a meeting last week with elections staff in the OSCE.
“After my meetings with the CEC Secretariat and the OSCE, I am confident that all technical preparations for holding the central and local elections on 17 November are on track,” said the SRSG after he was briefed on the preparations for the elections.
“These elections will undoubtedly be a challenging operation both from a political and technical point of view. But I am reassured that the CEC Secretariat, supported by the OSCE, is fully committed to making the elections a success.”
In the meeting, the SRSG also offered UNMIK’s assistance to the elections operation. “UNMIK will do everything in its power to assist the CEC Secretariat in conducting the elections,” said the SRSG.
“The success of these elections will also depend on the political entities,” the SRSG said. “It is absolutely crucial for them to respect all of the technical deadlines. I expect all candidate lists to be submitted for certification by the deadline tomorrow.”
