PRISTINA – UNMIK will soon start issuing Travel Documents for children under 16 years of age following the signing of the Administrative Direction 2002/6 implementing UNMIK Regulation No 2000/18 on Travel Documents by SRSG Michael Steiner recently.
The date for the acceptance of applications for Travel Documents for children under 16 and the implementation of other procedures set out in the Administrative Direction, would be announced shortly.
The Administrative Direction provides for children under 16 years of age to apply for a Travel Document, accompanied by his parents/guardians, in a Municipal Civil Registration Center after having been registered as habitual resident of Kosovo. Parents/guardians must also be registered habitual residents of Kosovo.
The Administrative Direction explains the detailed procedure for children under 16 to acquire a Travel Document. The applicant shall submit his/her UNMIK, foreign state or FRY birth certificate. His/her parents or guardians shall sign the completed form in the presence of the officer in charge of the Authorized office. They shall submit their UNMIK ID card or a Travel Document along with the completed form. In case they are unable to submit these documents, the Administrative Direction explains what other documentations they can provide, along with the child’s application. An administrative fee of 31 Euro will be payable for each application.
Even though children under 16 years will be registered, they will not receive an ID card.
An applicant over 16 years of age shall have to submit his UNMIK ID card along with the completed form.
Another important provision in the Administrative Direction sets out the guidelines for the correction of personal data on Travel Documents, especially in cases of name change or when Travel Documents contain incorrect personal data.
The Administrative Direction also provides for the processing of cases of lost, stolen or damaged Travel Documents.
