The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK, Peter Due, expresses profound sadness at the loss of lives of two women, reportedly at the hands of their husbands, within a matter of days.
He extends his deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.
“These appalling deaths are a painful reminder that violence against women remains a grave and urgent human rights concern. Such violence must never be tolerated, normalized or treated as a private matter,” SRSG Due said.
He calls upon the relevant institutions and authorities to ensure prompt, thorough and impartial investigations, due process and full accountability. At the same time, he urges intensified and coordinated action to prevent gender-based violence, protect women at risk and ensure that survivors have timely access to protection, support services and justice.
