As part of UNMIK’s continued efforts to support municipalities and local communities, the Mission donated four vehicles and office equipment to the Kosovo Islamic Association, the Kosovo Serbian Orthodox Eparchy, and the Hani i Elezit/Elez Han and Ranillug/Ranilug municipalities.
Ms. Margarethe Matic, UNMIK Head of the Office of Community Support, handed over the donations on behalf of the Head of the Mission, SRSG Zahir Tanin.
Mr. Vedat Sahiti, representative of the Islamic Association and advisor to the Mufti, received one vehicle on 22 January. “On behalf of the leadership of the Islamic Community in Kosovo, I thank UNMIK. This is not the Mission’s first donation, and I hope they will continue supporting our community,” Mr. Sahiti said.
Mr. Saša Mitrović, the representative of the Raska-Prizren Eparchy based at the Graçanicë/Gračanica Monastery, received one vehicle on 25 January. “I use this opportunity to thank UNMIK for the donated vehicle. We will use this vehicle to support the needs of our Eparchy and our community,” Mr. Mitrović said.
One vehicle was handed over to Mr. Refki Suma, the Mayor of Hani i Elezit/Elez Han municipality on 22 January, and another to Mr. Davor Petković, Deputy Mayor of Ranillug/Ranilug on 25 January. Both representatives thanked UNMIK for the continuous support to their municipalities.
Since 2013, UNMIK has donated 49 vehicles to 36 municipalities, 20 vehicles to various Kosovo government entities, and 30 vehicles to several NGOs, associations and health centres across Kosovo.
“Our donations to governmental and non-governmental entities aim to facilitate their work related to improving community relations and to trust-building initiatives,” UNMIK Head of the Office of Community Support said.
