Today, 28 January, 2002, UNMIK POLICE, supported by KFOR, arrested two men suspected of having violated Section 142 of the Criminal Code on War Crimes against the civilian population.
The victims in all of the incidents related to these allegations were Kosovo Albanian civilians. The offenses involved were committed during the time period of September, 1998, through June, 1999.
The accused, who are also Kosovo Albanians, are alleged to have committed a series of illegal abductions, physical attacks and in some cases, murders.
The defendants at the time of the alleged criminal activity were members of the Kosovo Liberation Army Military Police, operating in the general area of Podujevo Municipality. The arrests relate to the alleged criminal conduct of these individuals and are not directed at the organizations with which they were affiliated at that time, or with which they are currently employed.
In connection with these arrests, searches were conducted at the homes and offices of the accused, with the object of locating further evidence related to the crimes for which the men were arrested.
