Municipalities of the Eastern Region Discuss Shared Challenges and Priorities
On 27 July, the Mayor of Gjilan/Gnjilane hosted a meeting of the municipal representatives of Kosovo's Eastern region.
The participants identified contemporary challenges for their region, with focus on the need for economic development, inclusive education and countering radicalization and extremism.
The region’s diversity and proximity to external markets were identified as comparative advantages for developing commercial relations within the region and further afield.
Past problems with radicalization and extremism were noted, including the adverse publicity resulting from high-profile volunteer fighters in foreign conflicts.
The participants discussed the need for constructive engagement with youth, including though education and community outreach, to provide opportunities in the fields of culture, sports and economic activities.
