28 May 2019 - UNMIK is following with great concern the developments in northern Kosovo today, including the detention of two UN staff members during the course of their duties by Kosovo Police. Both staff members were subsequently transferred to hospital for treatment of injuries. We are establishing the precise circumstances, in close coordination with all international agencies on the ground.
14 Mar 2019 - March 12, 2019 – The need to increase the presence of women in high level political processes and the need for more women taking an active role in all levels of politics in Kosovo were highlighted in a joint United Nations and European Union event.
08 Feb 2019 - On 3 February 2019, Kosovo Police requested to interview a member of UNMIK personnel about an alleged minor offence in Pristina.
UNMIK is undertaking enquiries and will take appropriate action in accordance with the United Nations policies and procedures.
07 Feb 2019 - 7 February, 2019 – Kosovo and Serbian leaders must take a forward-looking approach to surmount obstacles that have thwarted negotiations during a period of antagonism, the Head of UNMIK told the UN Security Council.
SRSG Zahir Tanin outlined a number of issues denting the political will between Pristina and Belgrade during his latest briefing on Kosovo.
18 Dec 2018 - The Security and Gender Group strongly calls for the Kosovo Assembly to amend the draft budget for 2019, towards ensuring allocation of sustainable funding through the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare to enable shelters to meet the needs of gender-based violence survivors.
26 Nov 2018 - Upon the launch of the global campaign of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (25. November – 10. December), the Security and Gender Group calls for continuous efforts aimed at eliminating violence against women and girls, and for a strengthened institutional response to such human rights violations.
01 Oct 2018 - Sanam Dolatshahi, UNMIK's spokesperson: "Regarding some media reports on President Hashim Thaci’s visit to Gazivoda reservoir on 29 September, UNMIK wishes to clarify that its staff were neither notified of nor involved in this visit. UNMIK staff and vehicles in the area were present only fulfilling monitoring responsibilities, which include ascertaining and assessing developing situations on the ground, under the Mission mandate."
The Security and Gender Group strongly condemns the recent case of domestic violence with tragic outcomes in Gjakovë/Ðakovica municipality, including the homicide of a woman and her nine-year old daughter by her spouse in Brekoc/Brekovac village and calls for responsible institutions to step up their efforts to strengthen the response and prevention to such cases.
