Women, Peace and Security

The role of the Gender Adviser to the SRSG is to promote and support gender-responsive approaches to the implementation of the mission’s mandate, in line with the DPKO/DFS Policy on Gender-responsive Peacekeeping Operations, and the United Nations Security Council resolutions on women, peace and security.

The priority tasks of the Gender Advisor to the SRSG are:

• Provision of strategic-level guidance and advice to the senior management of the Mission on the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions on women and peace and security and the DPKO/DFS Policy on Gender-responsive Peacekeeping Operations.

• Ensuring that each functional area of the mission adequately promotes gender equality through integrating a gender perspective into all stages of analysis, planning, implementation and reporting.

• Supporting women’s participation in trust-building, political processes and governance structures;

• Collaborating with governmental institutions, civil society, women’s groups, as well as with UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes, that have complementary mandates as appropriate for the promotion of women and girl’s rights
