20 Sep 2017 - At the outset of the campaign for municipal elections in Kosovo, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Zahir Tanin, emphasises the importance of the opportunity for all people and communities to elect representatives in a democratic and transparent manner. He calls for responsible action by all leaders and parties to ensure a campaign free of intimidation and coercion, enabling voters to freely exercise their rights.

30 Jun 2017 - Geneva - 30 June, 2017: On 29 and 30 June 2017, members of the Working Group on Persons Unaccounted for in Relation to the Events in Kosovo, representatives of UNMIK, the ICRC, and the UN Working Group on Missing Persons and Enforced Disappearances met in Geneva to identify challenges and a way forward to resolving the whereabouts of the 1,658 missing persons in Kosovo.
29 Mar 2017 - Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Zahir Tanin, has closely followed today’s developments in Kosovo with concern, in particular reports that freedom of movement and association were prevented in some places.
He reminds all of the fundamental rights to assemble, to express opinions, and to vote in an open and democratic society, and trusts that these rights will continue to be defended by the authorities.
