Inside the Blue

Inside the Blue

Integrity, Professionalism, Respect for diversity. The United Nations strongly stands behind these three core values and promotes them both externally and internally. As a worldwide organization that promotes peace and tolerance, it is of the utmost importance that the UN sets an example and works with nothing less than the highest standards. All UN personnel are expected to act with tolerance, sensitivity and respect for diversity.

To reinforce those standards and to prevent abuses and misconduct within all its peacekeeping and special operations, the UN has issued clear guidance in its Staff Regulations and Rules, as well as implementing administrative issuances,  which are reinforced by workshops and training activities. The latest strategic programme was launched in 2014. Called “Inside the Blue”, it aims to raise awareness and strengthen field mission capacity to prevent and address prohibited conduct, such as discrimination and harassment, including sexual harassment and abuse of authority.

As a part of the worldwide programme, UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) personnel are this year participating in a series of Inside the Blue trainings to ensure they understand their rights and responsibilities and are empowered to report prohibited conduct. Lending his full support to the campaign, Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Farid Zarif, has asserted that UNMIK personnel should be treated with dignity and respect, and have the right to work in an environment free from harassment and abuse.
