SRSG Tanin meets with President Thaçi

Prishtina,  1 August 2016 - Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Zahir Tanin met with the President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi.  They discussed the cooperation of Kosovo institutions with the Office of the Special Representative on issues on mutual interest.

 
SRSG Tanin expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation with the Kosovo authorities and said that we should "be constructive in search of cooperation of mutual interests."
 
President Thaci said that Kosovo is grateful for the role that the United Nations has played in Kosovo after the war and reminded that the process of declaration of independence was launched by the United Nations, over 1244, and has been developed within the UN States that even had their appointed Envoy, President Ahtisaari, to lead the process.
 
"I can not go back to the time before 2008, before the declaration of independence," the president said Thaçi, adding that now is the time for other quality of cooperation with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and the United Nations.
 
"We are the bridge between Kosovo and the United Nations," Tanin said.
 
President Thaçi said that there is a range of topics of interest to Kosovo and the region in which the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and his team can contribute, such as the issues of missing person and the fight against terrorism.
