ASG Jenča continues Kosovo visit in Mitrovica region

On 31 August and 1 September, Mr. Miroslav Jenča, the Assistant Secretary-General in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations, continued his visit to Kosovo, travelling to the Mitrovica region.

Preston Pentony, Head of UNMIK Mitrovica Regional Office, Srđan Vulović, Zubin Potok, Milica Elezović, Vučina Janković,  Zvečan/Zveçan, Miroslav Jenča, UN Assistant Secretary-General, Goran Rakić, DPM & Minister for Communities and Returns, DSRSG Barrie Freeman, RSG Mari Yamashita, Head of UNOB, Milan Radojević, North Mitrovica, Zoran Todić, Leposavić/Leposaviq, Akylbai Eleusizov.

There, ASG Jenča met with the mayors of the region’s municipalities to hear about their priorities and challenges in addressing the needs of the population and their views concerning the upcoming local elections.

ASG Jenča also discussed UNMIK’s support to strengthening the rule of law in Kosovo with Judge Nikola Kabašić, President of the Basic Court of Mitrovica. He concluded the visit with a meeting with local civil society representatives to exchange views on cooperation with the United Nations in their efforts to advance the respect for human rights, and the participation of women and youth in inter-community trust-building. 

ASG Jenča’s visit will continue in Belgrade.
