23 September 2014 – The new Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) in Kosovo, Jennifer Brush, made her first field visit to Skenderaj/Srbica, to attend the inauguration of a newly built bridge and improved road to the Devic Monastery. DSRSG Brush met with: Bishop Teodosije of Raška and Prizren;  the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr. Memli Krasniqi; the Deputy Mayor of Skenderaj/Srbica, Mr. Fadil Nura; the Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo /European Union Special Representative in Kosovo, Mr. Samuel Žbogar; and other diplomatic and community representatives.

 

In a speech to the attendees, DSRSG Brush said, “I understand the relationship between the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Municipality of Skenderaj/Srbica has improved, including municipal support for reconnecting the Monastery’s telephone lines and providing Internet. This is a positive development. The international community welcomes these efforts as they indicate the commitment of both municipal authorities and the Serbian Orthodox Church to find a way to live together and jointly pursue a more prosperous and stable life for all who live here.”
