The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK Zahir Tanin welcomed Kosovo Assembly’s vote to incorporate the provisions of the Istanbul Convention, also known as the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence, into the constitution.

“This is an important step in the advancement of women’s rights, and one that brings Kosovo closer to achieving a just and peaceful society.”

SRSG Tanin said the full enjoyment by women and girls of their rights and freedoms had benefits for all. "Violence against women is violence against all."
