SRSG Ziadeh holds regular consultations in Belgrade, meets with president of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić

As part of her regular consultations in advance of the United Nations Security Council meeting on Kosovo, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK Caroline Ziadeh met with the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić.

During the meeting, SRSG Ziadeh and President Vučić discussed issues of current concern, including the repercussions of the crisis in Ukraine on Balkan regional issues, and the Belgrade-Pristina political dialogue. SRSG Ziadeh stressed the importance of intensifying engagement through the established dialogue mechanisms in order to maintain peace and security, and to achieve progress on many topics affecting the daily lives of people. 

SRSG Ziadeh also met separately with the Prime Minister, Ms. Ana Brnabić, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nikola Selaković, and the Director of the Office for Kosovo, Mr. Petar Petković. She was accompanied by the Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the UN Office in Belgrade, Ms. Mari Yamashita. 

Among the Belgrade-based diplomatic community, SRSG Ziadeh met with representatives of the Quint, as well China and the Russian Federation. She also exchanged views with the Head of the EU Delegation and the Head of the OSCE Mission in Serbia. 

With all diplomatic interlocutors, the SRSG's discussions centred around the current state of Pristina-Belgrade relations, UNMIK’s work in Kosovo, and the impact of wider events, especially the conflict in Ukraine, on regional security and political developments. 

SRSG Ziadeh will report to the United Nations Security Council on 20 April 2022.
