SRSG ZIADEH MEETS NEW KOSOVO DEPUTY OMBUDSPERSON, REFLECTS ON HUMAN RIGHTS PROTECTIONS

A message of support was shared by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK Ms. Caroline Ziadeh when she met the incoming Kosovo Deputy Ombudsperson Dr Srdjan Sentić today.

SRSG Ziadeh underscored the essential role of the Ombudspersons’s Office in ensuring the protection of human rights of all people in Kosovo, and how central this protection is to the trustbuilding efforts that are a priority focus of UNMIK’s current agenda.

She also welcomed recent visits by the Ombudsperson’s Office to communities and civil society organisations in northern Kosovo, some of which had been facilitated by UNMIK, especially at a time of heightened tensions and uncertainty for those residing there.

In return, Dr Sentić expressed gratitude to the mission for its work and projects dedicated to the promotion and protection of a cross-section of human rights and requested ongoing support in these endeavours.
