SRSG Ziadeh visits Novo Brdo/Novobërdë municipality, meets with Mayor Milošević and visits the women’s shelter

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) and Head of UNMIK, Ms. Caroline Ziadeh, visited Novo Brdo/Novobërdë municipality and met with the Mayor, Mr. Saša Milošević on 21 September.

They discussed cooperation and inter-ethnic relations.  Mayor Milošević emphasised that the good relations between communities in the municipality could serve as a positive example for all of Kosovo.

The mayor also informed the SRSG about the municipality’s development plans in the areas of rural tourism, ecological farming and organic fruit growing.

The SRSG and the Mayor jointly visited the women shelter for survivors of domestic violence. The coordinator of the shelter, Ms Vesna Stajić, informed the SRSG about educational programmes and training offered to the survivors. Ms. Stajić also expressed her appreciation for UNMIK’s support and mentioned that the shelter requires additional support to ensure the economic independence of women seeking assistance.

The SRSG thanked the municipal authorities and the shelter staff for their continued efforts to improve the lives of the municipality’s residents and invited them to continue cooperation with UNMIK.
