Supporting Women, Strengthening Access: UNMIK donates vehicle to Novo Brdo/Novobërdë shelter

To help women safely and quickly access support services, UNMIK donated a vehicle to the Women’s Inclusive Centre in Novo Brdo/Novobërdë.

Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and OiC UNMIK, Milbert Dongjoon Shin, visited the shelter for women and children victims of domestic violence in Novo Brdo/Novobërdë to deliver a vehicle that will assist the staff in reaching women in remote areas.

“This shelter is a testament to partnership and trust. By improving access, we are helping ensure that women in Novo Brdo/Novobërdë can reach services to make them feel safer and protected”, DSRSG Shin told those gathered.

Run by the NGO Women’s Inclusive Centre, led by Ms. Vesna Stajić, the shelter provides support to women and their children seeking safety and protection from domestic violence. Established in February 2019 with support from UNMIK, it is the first multi-ethnic gender-based violence shelter in Kosovo. Today, a mixed team of Kosovo-Serb and Kosovo-Albanian staff and volunteers supports women from all communities across the Gjilan/Gnjilane region.

“Until now, distance and difficult terrain often limited how quickly the team could respond,” Ms. Stajić said, expressing her gratitude for UNMIK’s continued support.
