UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations visits Pristina and Belgrade


 
The United Nations Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) for Peacekeeping Operations, Edmond Mulet, visited Kosovo from 3 to 5 June 2014. While in Pristina, he discussed the latest developments in Kosovo with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) and Head of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), Farid Zarif. He met with members of Kosovo’s leadership, including President Atifete Jahjaga, Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuçi, and Minister of European Integration Vlora Çitaku, as well as representatives of the diplomatic community. ASG Mulet also met with representatives of Kosovo judicial institutions, including the Head of the Kosovo Judicial Council, Chief Prosecutor, Ombudsperson, and presiding Judge of the Supreme Court. In addition, ASG Mulet visited the Graçanicë/Gračanica Monastery and travelled to Mitrovica, in northern Kosovo, to meet with mayors. He also paid a visit to a mass grave in Rudnica, in Serbia proper, en route to Belgrade.  

On 5 and 6 June, ASG Mulet met separately

in Belgrade with the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic, Director of the Government Office for Kosovo Marko Djuric, other senior Serbian officials from the Defence and Foreign Affairs Ministries, and representatives of the diplomatic corps, to discuss the work of UNMIK and the much appreciated and increasing Serbian contributions to UN peacekeeping operations.  Serbia currently contributes more than 200 military and police personnel to UN peacekeeping operations.  In this connection, ASG Mulet also discussed with Serbian officials the high-level regional round-table on UN peacekeeping, which the United Nations Office in Belgrade (UNOB) plans to hold in October.
