United Nations Day 24 October 2012

The mission of the United Nations is to build a better world; leave no one behind; and stand up for the poorest and most vulnerable in the name of global peace and social justice. On UN Day 2012, “Let us unite, seven billion strong, in the name of the global common good.” - Ban Ki-moon.

UN Day is an opportunity to highlight the organization’s rich tapestry of values and tireless efforts to promote global tolerance, awareness, dialogue, and peace. On 24 October, the United Nations will celebrate the 67th anniversary of the Organization under the theme: “A Message of Peace”.
On this day, the organization will host special events, including a concert in the General Assembly Hall in New York will feature special guests like UN Messenger of Peace Stevie Wonder. The concert will be available to view live on UN Webcast at http://www.un.org/en/events/unday.

In an effort to promote peace, the UN4U outreach campaign was created to bring UN Senior Officials and staff in contact with students from schools and universities. Commemorating its fifth consecutive year, the weeks leading up to UN Day will see the initiative providing information about its work and efforts to educate young people in areas of contemporary concern such as bullying and managing diversity.
It is our hope that the United Nations, through efforts such as UN Day, can continue to champion the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and raise awareness about global efforts towards conflict resolution. Only through the ongoing participation of new generations can we bring about “A Message of Peace.”
