UNMIK Chief visited Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje and Obiliq/Obilić municipalities
Pristina, 26 April 2016 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG), Zahir Tanin, and his Deputy, Christopher Coleman, today visited Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje and Obiliq/Obilić municipalities. The SRSG took the opportunity to thank both mayors for their leadership and engagement with the international community. Discussions with the mayors covered a wide-range of issues, including intercommunity relations and socio-economic development.
The Mayor of Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje, Burim Berisha, discussed local issues including religious interaction and efforts to reduce unemployment in the Municipality.
In Obiliq/Obilić municipality, the Mayor Xhafer Gash, described the impact of local coal production and the power-producing stations on public health and the local environment. Additionally, he stressed the need for a more holistic approach to facilitate returns.
