UNMIK launches App for mobile devices

With the UNMIK App, the United Nations Mission in Kosovo offers subscribers all the latest news reported by the local media in Kosovo and activities of the mission at the touch of a finger.

You may wonder, how does UNMIK maintain such an active online presence?

According to the Head of UNMIK’s Department of Public Information, Olivier Salgado, it’s all in a day’s work.

“The Department is committed to offering information on the work of the Mission and developments in Kosovo through our daily local Media Monitoring reports, press releases and other updates. Already the Mission has a website, a Facebook page, and a Twitter account, and now it’s going to have an App too. This is another tool for us to get our message and products out. At the touch of a finger, at anywhere and at anytime users will be able to learn more about the work of the Mission and access other relevant information," Salgado explains.

The UNMIK App is compatible with every brand of smart phones and tablets, including the Ipad. You can download it for free from your mobile device at http://unmik.mobapp.at. After a few simple steps it’s in your palm.

"The UNMIK App is currently in beta, so there may be a bug or two,” says Salgado, adding that “any feedback is welcome and appreciated!"
This Mission’s social media presence is constantly evolving.

"Our media products are sent out on a daily basis to more than 3000 people all over the  world, they’re an important reference for those living in, working on and studying Kosovo and have been since 1999," according to Salgado.

Beginning with the innovative global United Nations Podcast channel created by UNMIK in 2007, his team is constantly seeking out new ways to use social media to spread the Mission's message and activities.
