UNMIK supports Kosovo’s Para-Sports Games

Promoting the sporting abilities of people with disabilities in Kosovo, on 2 March, UNMIK supported the holding of the 19th Para-Sports Games organised by the Kosovo Paralympic Committee.

Gathered at the Academy for Public Safety in Vushtrri/Vučitrn, almost 400 para-athletes from across Kosovo and different communities competed in 13 disciplines ranging from blind football5 and goalball, over wheelchair running, basketball and tennis to sitting volleyball, para boccia, judo and arm wrestling.

Thanking UNMIK for its support provided through a Community Trust-building Project, Avni Kelmendi of the Para-Athletic Federation said that "the games make athletes with disabilities feel empowered, they get to know they are not alone, and that somebody is thinking about them."

"These Paralympic games are also a preparation for Balkan tournaments and the World Paralympic Games 2024 to be held in Paris," said Njomza Emini, President of the Kosovo Paralympic Committee.

Supporting togetherness, UNMIK engages with local communities supporting the social inclusion of disadvantaged groups.
