Completing the outreach tour to the four northern municipalities, UNMIK SRSG visited North Mitrovica Municipality and met with the Mayor and the Head of Administration

On 28 July, Zahir Tanin, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) accompanied by  Christopher Coleman, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG), visited North Mitrovica Municipality and met with Mayor Goran Rakic and head of municipal administration Adrijana Hodzic to evaluate the situation on the ground. Both municipal officials expressed pride in the multi-cultural nature of the North Mitrovica community and emphasized the importance of developing local solutions to local community challenges. The Mayor specifically highlighted the importance of cooperation with UNMIK because Kosovo Serbs view UNMIK as the most important international presence in Kosovo. SRSG Tanin thanked the hosts for their vision, commitment to the maintenance of good inter-ethnic relations and the promotion of stability in their communities, and reiterated UNMIK’s commitment to advocate for and support peaceful and productive coexistence between communities.
