SRSG Tanin holds pre-Security Council meetings in Belgrade

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Kosovo, Mr. Zahir Tanin, met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić, and ambassadors and diplomats representing the “Quint” countries, China, the Russian Federation and the European Union in Belgrade.

SRSG Tanin’s visit was for regular consultations ahead of the forthcoming UN Security Council session on the United Nations Mission in Kosovo.

Discussions covered a wide range of current political and security issues affecting relations between Belgrade and Pristina , including the events of the preceding week, which had, among other things, resulted in the injury and detention of UN staff. In this context, SRSG Tanin highlighted the need for all parties to engage constructively with the United Nations to maintain peace and security on the ground.

SRSG Tanin took the opportunity also to personally visit one of the UNMIK staff members affected, Mr. Mikhail Krasnoshchekov, whose injuries are being treated at a medical facility in Belgrade. He met with the Director of the Military Academy Hospital, and was given a full brief from professional medical staff attending to Mr. Krasnoshchekov.
