SRSG Ziadeh meets with State Department Officials in Washington DC

Following her briefing to the Security Council on 20 April, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK, Ms. Caroline Ziadeh, met with officials from the United States Department of State in Washington DC.

On 21 April, SRSG Ziadeh met with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for United Nations Political Affairs, Peacekeeping, Sanctions and Counterterrorism in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs, Mr. David McFarland. The discussion centred on UNMIK’s role and activities in Kosovo, focusing on the Women, Peace and Security and the Youth, Peace and Security agendas, as well as programmes in the areas of human rights, the rule of law and intercommunity trustbuilding.

At the State Department, SRSG Ziadeh also met with the Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs and Special Representative to the Western Balkans, Mr. Gabriel Escobar. They exchanged views on the situation in Kosovo and the status of Pristina-Belgrade relations, and the important role of the international community in supporting the EU-facilitated dialogue.
