On 14 December 2023, SRSG and the Head of UNMIK, Caroline Ziadeh, joined almost 50 Mission’s gender-equality champions - men and women - in an informal gathering to start planning a new set of activities that will further strengthen the Mission’s work in promoting gender equality and women empowerment (GEEW), both internally and externally.

“Today, we gather not merely as UN personnel but as architects of change,” said Ziadeh, opening the event.

The event participants worked in seven thematic focus groups and have come up with several recommendations for actions to be taken by the Mission, including providing peer-to-peer mentorship support for the Mission personnel and external partners and organising community outreach programs on GEEW. They also developed suggestions on how to ensure a harmonious work environment with gender equality at its core.

More similar gatherings are to follow, with UNMIK leadership remaining committed to continuing its effort to achieve full gender equality and further empower women.
