Promoting human rights for persons with disabilities in Kosovo is a constant challenge.

With the assistance of international organizations like UNMIK, equal opportunities are made possible in this area, with the greater goal of strengthening the role of civil society in Kosovo.

As part of a series of donations of equipment to regions across Kosovo, UNMIK Deputy SRSG Robert Sorenson visited the Pristina headquarters of the Association of the Blind of Kosovo on Tuesday, 29 January, to donate a vehicle to assist the Association in their efforts to improve the lives of the visually impaired.
"I'm very happy that were able to make this donation to the Association today," stated Deputy SRSG Sorenson. "Clearly, the work that you do is really fundamental for helping people establish their rights; everyone is entitled to these rights."

The Association of the Blind of Kosovo is a multi-ethnic organization established in 1947. With offices in north Mitrovica and Graçanicë/Gračanica, their aim is to improve the lives of blind and partially sighted people across the region.

"Efforts from UNMIK to help improve the lives of blind and partially sighted people are highly appreciated, " said Ujup Rashica, president of the Association. "The cooperation with UNMIK at this phase is very important for us. The vehicle donated to our association will simplify our daily work."
"I know that this vehicle will be put to good use by the Association," added Mr. Sorenson. "I look forward to continuing cooperation with the Association of the Blind of Kosovo."
