SRSG TANIN MEETS SERBIAN PRESIDENT TOMISLAV NIKOLIC

BELGRADE –  On 9 February 2017, SRSG Zahir Tanin met the President of the Republic of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic, during his quarterly visit to Belgrade and in advance of his presentation to the UN Security Council on UNMIK and Kosovo.  During the discussions, SRSG Tanin underscored that UNMIK continues to operate under its UNSCR 1244 mandate, with a focus on communities, rule of law, human rights, and societal reconciliation.

The SRSG also emphasised the importance of pursuing dialogue as the only means to peacefully resolving differences, and highlighted Serbia’s key role in ensuring long-lasting peace and stability in the Western Balkans.  Both President Nikolic and SRSG Tanin agreed on the need to continue a fruitful engagement in the framework of the EU-facilitated dialogue and on the implementation of all agreements reached through the dialogue.
