The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Kosovo and Head of UNMIK, Zahir Tanin, met on 23 October with Benedetto Della Vedova, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Italy, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome.

During the meeting, which was also attended by several other Ministry officials, SRSG Tanin and Undersecretary Della Vedova discussed the situation in Kosovo following the two recent elections, the outlook for the continuation of the EU-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, and the broader dynamics in the region. SRSG Tanin also briefed about UNMIK’s continuing role in helping to promote peace and security and enhance trust between communities.

The visit to Rome, part of SRSG Tanin’s engagement with Security Council members at the capital level, took place ahead of the upcoming Security Council debate on Kosovo, which Italy will chair as president for the month of November.
