SRSG Zahir Tanin visits officials in North and South Mitrovica

On 11 April, Special Representative of the Secretary-General Mr. Zahir Tanin, accompanied by his Deputy Mr. Christopher Coleman, visited South Mitrovica Municipality where he met with Mayor Agim Bahtiri and the Principal Deputy Mayor. They exchanged views on a variety of issues including peace and stability in the Mitrovica region, confidence-building amongst communities, and economic development.

The SRSG then walked across the main bridge to North Mitrovica where he was met by Mayor Goran Rakić who provided a tour of the works to pedestrianize the main street of the municipality. Afterward, they discussed economic challenges faced by the municipality, implementation of agreements reached through the high-level dialogue, and relations amongst communities in the Mitrovica region. The SRSG commended both Mayors for their cooperation in resolving issues of common concern.

The SRSG then met with the newly appointed Assistant Director of the Government of Serbia’s Office for Kosovo, Ljubomir Marić. They discussed the Assistant Director’s new responsibilities, strategies for economic development, and the need for continued constructive dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
